Are You a Night Owl or a Morning Person?
Posted On 09/08/2008 03:36:55
If you’re one of those who can spring out of bed each morning feeling ready to conquer the world, then we’ll excuse you from reading this article. But please read on if you or someone you know could use a little help in shaking that morning grogginess and feeling more alert, alive, and productive. The most common reason for difficulty in awakening is simply not getting enough good quality sleep. Most adults require 6 to 8 hours, and adolescents and teens can need up to 10 hours per night, although it’s not easy to convince a teenager that sleeping is more important than late-night computer gaming or text messaging with friends! If you’re having difficulty awakening in the morning, there can be consequences. Feeling rushed in the morning increases your body’s production of stress hormones. Not Regular? GoChi Can Help You Get Moving!
Posted On 09/02/2008 11:58:59

In our Health Watch articles, we have focused on many of today's most frequently discussed health topics. In this issue, we would like to explore another area that is of equal importance, even though it's not something that's likely to come up during dinner conversation or around the office water cooler. Today's topic is constipation, and although it may sound like the stuff of jokes, bowel irregularity is anything but funny for those who suffer from it.

You may be surprised to know that governments keep constipation statistics, but they do, and perhaps that is because it's one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints worldwide. In North America, more than 4 million Americans and a half-million Canadians have frequent constipation; accounting for 3 million physician visits a year.

Some people think they are constipated if they do not have a bowel movement every day. However, normal stool elimination may be three times a day or three times a week, depending on the person. But if your frequency is less than this - or if you're experiencing painful or difficult elimination - then you may indeed have a problem.

To understand constipation, it helps to know how the colon, or large intestine, works. As food moves through the colon, the colon absorbs water from the food while it forms waste products, or stool. Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon's muscle contractions are too slow or sluggish. Common causes of constipation include:

  • Not enough fiber in the diet
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Medications, including pain relievers, antacids, and some iron supplements
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Changes in life or routine such as pregnancy, aging, and travel
  • Abuse of laxatives
  • Ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement
  • Insufficient water or fluid intake
How can you help yourself to become more regular? The experts at the U.S. National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse recommend that you follow these simple tips to help relieve symptoms and to prevent the recurrence of constipation:
  • Eat a well-balanced, high-fiber diet that includes beans, bran, whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Most North Americans eat less than half of the 20-35 grams of fiber recommended by government authorities, so there's plenty of room for improvement!
  • Drink plenty of liquids. Water and other liquids add fluid to the colon and bulk to stools, making bowel movements softer and easier to pass.
  • Exercise regularly. If you get your body moving, your bowels will follow!
  • Set aside time after breakfast or dinner for undisturbed visits to the toilet.
  • Do not ignore the urge to have a bowel movement. If you do, your body will simply stop sending the message.
  • Understand that normal bowel habits vary. Don't stress out over temporary changes.
  • Whenever a significant or prolonged change in bowel habits occurs, check with a doctor.
To these great tips, we'd like to add our own scientifically supported recommendation:
  • Drink 4 oz. (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

GoChi - Clinical Study participants report experiencing improved regularity.

For countless generations, the goji berry has been helping the people of Asia to find optimal health and wellness. Today, the Asian secret is out, and FreeLife's GoChi is validating goji's legendary benefits in human clinical studies. In a recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, participants drinking a daily serving of just 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi reported experiencing significant improvement in bowel regularity in as little as 14 days!

This groundbreaking clinical study has been published in the highly regarded
Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (JACM), and it can also be viewed on the U.S. Government's encyclopedic PubMed website at http://www.pubmed.gov/. The acceptance of our study by the independent experts of a peer-reviewed publication such as JACM represents a first for a functional juice beverage in the Direct Selling Industry, and it demonstrates FreeLife's ongoing commitment to supporting its claims with solid scientific research.

Drink GoChi every day. It's a moving experience!

Running on Empty? Here's How to Fill Up Your Energy Tank!
Posted On 08/25/2008 11:54:36

Can you imagine what you could do with a little more energy? Perhaps you could get a little more work done, spend some more time playing with your kids, power your way through a workout at the gym, or perhaps just do something fun. Sounds appealing, doesn't it? Well, the sad fact is that although many of us may have the best intentions, we simply run out of gas.

A lack of energy can have many causes. The U.S. National Institutes of Health tell us that these can include anemia, depression, sleep disorders, bad nutrition habits, diabetes, or a sedentary lifestyle. Certain medications may also cause a lack of energy, including antihistamines for allergies, blood pressure medicines, sleeping pills, prednisone, and diuretics.

Low energy can affect you in some important ways that you may not have considered. It can rob you of focus, and that can often lead to mental lapses and bad decision-making. Your work may suffer, too, as low energy steals the momentum you need to meet deadlines, arrive on time for meetings, and reach project milestones. The most successful people in business are those who can recognize an opportunity and have the ability to quickly seize it. With insufficient energy, the parade could pass you by, and you might not even know it!

Here are some great lifestyle tips that can help you to fill up your energy tank and improve your productivity:

  1. Get more exercise. If you're feeling tired, you might be surprised to learn that a walk may be better than a nap for boosting your energy levels. Any kind of physical activity will help to burn fat and increase your metabolism, and exercise will also improve your mood, helping you to feel more energized. In an important recent University of Georgia study, researchers found that sedentary people can increase their energy levels by 20 percent and reduce fatigue by an amazing 65 percent just by doing regular low-impact exercise. In another study, the same researchers found that the energy benefit from exercise was even greater than the improvement from using prescription stimulant drugs!
  2. Take control of your health issues. Be sure to see your doctor if you have high blood pressure, thyroid problems, diabetes, or other energy-depleting medical conditions.
  3. Sleep under comfortable conditions. Good quality sleep is essential for maintaining your energy reserves. Make sure that your bedroom is quiet, dark, and at a cool temperature that will promote healthful, deep sleep. Also, it may be time to replace that creaky mattress and lumpy pillow. Your energy levels will thank you!
  4. Drink 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

GoChi - Participants in groundbreaking clinical study report experiencing significantly increased energy levels in just 14 days!

In a recent human clinical trial featured in the peer-reviewed Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (JACM), participants drinking a daily serving of just 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi reported experiencing significantly increased energy levels and reduced fatigue in as little as 14 days! Researchers also noted that the GoChi drinkers reported improvements in sleep quality and an easier ability to awaken in the morning.

The publication of our study by the independent experts of a peer-reviewed publication such as JACM represents a first for a functional juice beverage in the Direct Selling industry, and it demonstrates FreeLife's ongoing commitment to supporting its claims with solid scientific research.

Here's to energizing your life with GoChi!

How's Your Happiness Quotient?
Posted On 08/18/2008 08:50:47

How's Your Happiness Quotient?

If you're like most people, you are actively seeking more happiness in your life. But you may be looking in the wrong places, and that may not be your fault. Turn on your TV, read a magazine, or log on to the Internet, and you're assaulted by a never-ending bombardment of advertising pitches. They'll try to convince you that happiness can be yours for the price of a new car, an expensive watch, or a trendy cell phone, but the sad truth is that the pleasure of a new acquisition fades quickly and will do nothing to increase your happiness quotient.

Can wealth make you happier? You've often heard that money can't buy happiness, but few of us actually believe it. And yet, research has shown that once your basic needs are met, additional income does little to raise your sense of satisfaction with life. Additional income can raise your future happiness index, however, by helping you to secure your retirement goals or your children's education.

Some people believe that youth is the key to happiness, but the fact is that older people are more consistently satisfied with their lives than the young, and they're less prone to dark moods, too. Perhaps you're thinking that a move to warmer, sunnier weather might make you happier? Well, think again! Tropical islands and the romantic French Riviera may be happy places to visit, but a recent study at England's University of Leicester has shown that the world's happiest people are the Danes, even though the climate can be unrelentingly cloudy, cold, and damp.

The good news is that you don't have to move to Copenhagen to be happy. You can increase your happiness quotient over the long term by adopting healthy lifestyle habits such as getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and making time for friends and family.

But what if you're feeling blue right now? Here are some strategies that can help you to lift your spirits immediately (excerpted from Gretchen Rubin's enlightening blog, The Happiness Project). Try to check off as many of the following items as possible, and you'll really see a difference in your mood!

Boost your energy
. Stand up and pace while you talk on the phone or, better still, take a brisk ten-minute walk outdoors. Research shows that the activity and sunlight are good for your focus, your mood, and the retention of information.

Reach out to friends. Having warm, close bonds with other people is one of the keys to happiness, so take the time to stay in touch.

Rid yourself of a nagging task. Crossing an irksome chore off your to-do list will give you a big rush of energy and cheer, and you'll be surprised that you procrastinated for so long.

Create a calmer environment. Clear some physical and mental space around your desk by sorting papers, pitching junk, or even just making your piles neater. A large stack of little tasks can feel overwhelming, but often just a few minutes of work can make a sizeable dent.

Lay the groundwork for some future fun. Order a novel you've been wanting to read, or plan a weekend activity that brings you pleasure. Try to involve friends or family, as well; people enjoy almost all activities more when they're with other people than when they're alone.

Do a good deed. Introduce two people who could help each other, or shoot someone an email with some useful information or gratifying praise. If you do good, you’ll feel good - this really works.

Act happy. Put a smile on your face right now, even if you're faking it. Research shows that even an artificially induced smile has a positive influence on your emotions. And if you're smiling, other people will perceive you as being friendlier and more approachable.

Listen to your favorite music. Studies show that listening to music is one of the most effective ways to boost your energy and mood (second only to exercise). In fact, in one study, 92% of people felt happier when they listened to music they liked. For an added boost, dance around the room, too.

Drink 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

Turn On Your Body's Antioxidant Power!
Posted On 08/05/2008 02:57:43
Everyone's talking about the age-defying benefits of antioxidants, but do you know what antioxidants are - and how they actually work?

The U.S. Government's Medline Plus database defines antioxidants as substances that help to protect your cells against the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food or by environmental sources such as tobacco smoke, radiation, and automobile exhaust. You even produce harmful free radicals when you exercise! Left unchecked, free radicals can damage or kill cells. They play a role in heart disease, cancer, and other diseases, and they can also contribute to the premature aging of your body and mind.

Fortunately, antioxidants can come to the rescue! The antioxidant process in your body is similar to stopping an apple from browning. Once you cut an apple, it begins to brown, but you can prevent discoloration by dipping each slice in lemon juice, which contains the antioxidant vitamin C.

Antioxidants are divided into two classes: the dietary antioxidants that you get from food, and the endogenous antioxidants that are made by the body. In addition to vitamin C, dietary antioxidants also include beta-carotene, vitamin E, selenium, and polyphenols such as anthocyanins, flavonoids, and xanthones.

Polyphenols are found in some fruits and juices, and even though they may look impressive in antioxidant tests such as ORAC, those tests only measure antioxidant potential in a test tube. The truth is that most antioxidants in fruits and juices do not perform well in the human body because they are poorly absorbed and therefore remain trapped in the digestive tract, and this has been shown in important scientific studies.

We believe that it is far more meaningful to human health to maintain high serum levels of the body's own endogenous antioxidants, namely superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase. These vital antioxidant enzymes circulate in the blood throughout the entire body to neutralize all types of free radicals before they can do harm.

Here are some tips for increasing your body's antioxidant power to help prevent premature aging:

1. "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." These words of wisdom are from Michael Pollan's remarkable new book, In Defense of Food. His directives are simple, sensible, and to the point:

o "Eat food" - Eat a wide variety of the kinds of natural and healthy foods that your grandparents ate, not today's unhealthy processed or "engineered" foods that are loaded with salt, fat, or high-fructose corn syrup. The digestion and metabolism of processed foods can deplete your body’s vital endogenous antioxidants.

o "Not too much" - The more calories you consume, the more free radicals you generate. Animal studies have shown that those that eat less live longer, healthier lives.

o "Mostly plants" - Plant-based foods are healthier and put far less oxidative stress on the body. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, and nuts also contain beneficial phytonutrients that can contribute to health and well-being.

2. Drink 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

GoChi - Human clinical study shows increased antioxidant power and reduced free-radical damage in just 30 days!

In a recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, blood tests on participants drinking GoChi showed highly significant improvements in serum levels of the important endogenous antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. This was accompanied by a corresponding reduction in blood levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a prime indicator of free-radical damage and a known health risk factor.

This antioxidant study is yet another demonstration of the remarkable power of GoChi, and it illustrates FreeLife’s ongoing commitment to lead the nutrition industry in clinical research, product efficacy, and evidence-based product formulation.

So raise your glass, and you'll soon be well on your way to raising your antioxidant power.

Cheers!

Check to see your Stress levels!
Posted On 07/17/2008 13:51:14

Don't Distress Over Stress!

"Stress is life. Life is stress," says Dr. Esther Sternberg, Director of the Integrative Neural Immune Program at the U.S. Government's National Institute of Mental Health. You can't avoid stress, but although you might think of it only in negative terms, a little bit of stress can actually add excitement to your life and it's essential for keeping you motivated. Too much stress, however, leads to distress, and that, according to many health researchers, can have negative effects on your immune system.

People in distress also tend to secrete an overabundance of the stress hormone cortisol, with numerous health consequences including heart disease, stroke, obesity, respiratory disease, chronic inflammation, sleep disturbances, migraine and tension headaches, and even accident proneness.

Distress can also affect your performance at work, at play, or at school. Dr. Elizabeth Droz, Director of Student Counseling at Binghamton University, lists some major causes of distress:

Change - Any change (either positive or negative) that requires adaptation to your daily routine can cause overproduction of the stress hormones that can lead to distress.

Attitudes - Negative, critical, fearful, and/or pessimistic attitudes about yourself or others can cause emotional distress. That can lead to "sickness behavior," in which the sufferer loses interest in work, daily activities, and social interaction.

Poor Nutrition - An imbalanced diet causes physiological distress, reducing the body's ability to maintain itself and to resist disease.

Lack of Physical Fitness - Exercise is more than just building muscle. It also tones the vital organs and promotes the flow of stress-fighting brain chemicals.
Other causes of distress include bad relationships, boredom, noise pollution, congested travel and living conditions, and economic pressures.

All of these common conditions can wreak havoc on your health and well-being.

How can you help yourself to de-stress instead of distress? Here's what the experts at the National Institutes of Health recommend:
  1. Identify the things in your life that cause you stress: relationship problems, conflict at work, a death or illness in the family. Once you know what's stressing you out, you can begin to figure out ways to change your environment and manage your stressors.
  2. Take control of stressful situations. If there's a problem that can be solved, it is better to solve it now than to let it become a chronic and distressing annoyance.
  3. Manage those chronic stressors that you can't control. Support groups, relaxation, meditation, and exercise are all tools you can use to manage your stress. If nothing you do seems to work for you, seek a health professional who can help. Also seek professional help if you find that you worry excessively about the small things in life.
  4. Drink 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi every day!

GoChi - Less stress reported in human clinical study in just 14 days!

Since ancient times, the goji berry has been helping generations of Asian people to deal with the stresses of daily life. No goji product is more potent than FreeLife's GoChi, and now, in a recent human clinical trial reported in the peer-reviewed Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (JACM), participants drinking a daily serving of just 4 ounces (120 ml) of GoChi reported significant reduction in stress in as little as 14 days!

The publication of our study by the independent experts of a peer-reviewed publication such as JACM represents a first for a functional juice beverage in the Direct Selling industry, and it demonstrates FreeLife's ongoing commitment to supporting its claims with solid scientific research.

I Don't Like Swallowing Pills!
Posted On 06/23/2008 08:04:17

It all started for me as a child, when I awoke one morning with a sore throat. In an effort not to wake my sister, who was home from college one weekend, I simply helped myself to a couple of Bufferin (a popular pain reliever at the time), popped them in my mouth, and swallowed. But, they got caught in my swollen throat!

I tried desperately to cough up the pills, but they were too chalky and simply lodged themselves more firmly in place! I was panicking - I couldn't breathe! I ran from my bedroom when my sister mysteriously appeared at her doorway. I guess I was making too much noise. Embarrassed, I ran from her! Luckily, she caught me, started pounding me on the back, and after a few long seconds, up popped the pills! Whew! I could breathe again.

From that point on, I could never comfortably swallow any pills, whether it be plain aspirin, vitamins or even capsules. I never was able to get that image out of my brain. I resorted to powdered aspirin products so I could drink a pain reliever if I needed it. Because of this phobia, I stayed away from pills as much as I possibly could! This set me on a path to self discovery!

I now try to maintain my health and well being through nutrition. But we all know that today's food sources have decreased in nutrition, and supplements have become the choice to maintain our health. But, I still didn't like the idea of swallowing pills. What's a girl to do?

Luckily, I have discovered a natural juice supplement called GoChi - the next generation of Himalayan Goji Juice from Freelife that contains all of the necessary vitamins and minerals plus more to help maintain my health. It was even featured on Oprah! I simply drink a small glass every morning!

I chose my product carefully, and have selected what I believe, is the best natural dietary supplement in juice form available today! It is delicious and every bottle is guaranteed to contain the same nutrient-filled ingredients. Hey, if I'm going to drink a functional beverage, then it better have function!

Plus, not only is there actual scientific proof that this particular supplement will enhance my immune system - but it has also been published in medical journals and on the government website (pubmed.gov). No other juice product can make this claim! Remember, I selected my product very carefully!

And the bonus? I don't have to swallow those pills anymore! And, I found that I am much healthier today for it!

Answer this question - What's your dream of network marketing - residual income - to retire early - your dream home - work from home?

In a regular job, you go to work for someone for $20 an hour. This is about 40 thousand a year based on an 8 hour day. Now if you are one of the lucky people, and got a 10% increase at the end of the year, you'll now making $44,000.

Now most people would admit that even with 10% per year increases, it would take a number of years to grow $40,000 up to let's say $80,000 per year ... (click on link below to read full story)
